Flexible Work Schedules
Tiered Float Pool Option
Every day is a new challenge for nurses in our float pool. We provide additional compensation for the flexibility required to work in these areas.
Designed to meet the varied needs of the clinical units, these options are:
- Specialty Float Pool
- Central Block Float Pool
- Central Daily Float Pool
Specialty Float Pools
The Specialty Float Pool is designed to support specific patient populations. You would be assigned on a daily basis to one of the units within your specialty group.
- Cardiac Specialty Float Pool supports Acute Coronary Unit, Progressive Coronary Care Unit, and 3C Post Cardiac Cath Unit.
- Center for Critical Care Float Pool supports Trauma Neuro Intensive Care Unit, Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Burn Center.
- Surgical Cardiac Float Pool supports Open Heart Unit and Transitional Open Heart Unit.
- Emergency Department Specialty Float Pool supports Emergency Departments at Cedar Crest, 17th and Chew St, and Muhlenberg sites.
- Women's Services supports Labor and Delivery, Perinatal Unit and Mother-Baby Unit.
- Children's Services supports Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Pediatrics.
- Behavioral Health Specialty Float Pool supports Adult and Pediatric Behavioral Units.
Positions are regular full- or part-time 12-hour shift positions.
Rate of pay is based on experience level.
Bonus:
- $3,000/year bonus for full-time day shift RNs who remain one year in the Specialty Float Pool.
- $5,000/year bonus for full-time evening and night-shift RNs remaining in the Specialty Float Pool for one year.
- Part-time employees will receive a prorated bonus based on hours worked per year.
- Bonus will not be prorated for time less than one year in the Specialty Float Pool.
Central Block Float Pool
Available for evening and night-shift RNs in Medical/Surgical Units or Critical Care Units. If you work in this float pool, you would be pre-assigned to a specific unit for 4-8 weeks.
Compensation: Rate of pay is based on experience. An additional $5.00/hour is provided for evening and night-shift RNs for all productive and non-productive time.
Work schedule: Work 8-hour shifts in Medical/Surgical Unit and 12-hour shifts in Critical Care Unit. Must work every other weekend and three holidays per year.
Central Daily Float
If you work in the Central Daily Float Pool, you will receive your unit of assignment each day prior to the start of your shift. This pool consists of two components –Medical/Surgical or Critical Care.
Plan A–work every other weekend and three holidays/year and receive additional compensation of $5.00/hour for day shift and $8.00/hour for evening and night shift for all productive and non-productive time.
Plan B–work 8-hour shifts, 8- and 12-hour combination or 12-hour shifts, work one weekend per schedule, work two holidays/year, work Christmas every third year instead of every other and receive additional compensation of $3.00/hour for day shift and $6.00/hour for evening and night shift for all productive and non-productive time.
